Cholpon Ata city is located on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, in the central part of its northern coast. Approximately 265 kilometers separate it from the capital Bishkek. The settlement is known as a popular resort with excellent sandy beaches. The name of the city translates as "Father of the Stars." According to one popular version, it is believed that the city got its name due to the shiny water surface of the lake, which reflects millions of bright stars at night. Cholpon-Ata's closest neighbors are the villages of Kara-Oi and Bosteri, located near its western and eastern outskirts. The regional center is located 135 kilometers from its borders.
